Structural Drying
Mould Doctor SA Structural Drying Process
Structural drying is a critical step following water damage and is essential to prevent mould growth and long-term structural issues. At Mould Doctor SA, we follow a proven, systematic drying process designed to remove moisture safely and thoroughly from building materials, not just visible surfaces.
The process begins with a detailed moisture assessment. Using professional moisture meters and thermal imaging where required, our technicians identify all affected areas, including hidden moisture within walls, floors, ceilings, cavities, and substructures. This allows us to create a targeted drying plan based on the type of materials, extent of water intrusion, and environmental conditions.
Next, we remove any remaining surface water and introduce controlled airflow using industrial-grade air movers. These are strategically positioned to increase evaporation from wet materials without causing damage. High-capacity dehumidifiers are then installed to extract moisture from the air, preventing secondary damage and accelerating the drying process.
Throughout the drying period, moisture levels are regularly monitored and documented. Equipment placement and settings are adjusted as needed to ensure consistent progress and complete drying. This controlled approach helps prevent issues such as warping, swelling, odours, and mould growth.
Once moisture readings confirm that affected materials have returned to safe, dry levels, equipment is removed and the area is reassessed. Where required, antimicrobial or mould-preventative treatments may be applied as an added safeguard. The result is a thoroughly dried structure that is safe, stable, and ready for repair or continued occupancy.
